EdTech Content Strategy Mixed Methods

Educational Platform and Content Experience

A mixed-methods initiative that connected behavioral insights, content experience, and platform improvements to strengthen satisfaction and support more effective learning experiences.

Overview

This project focused on a common challenge in educational products: strong learning intentions do not always translate into strong user experiences. In this case, engagement issues were not caused by a single feature or content problem, but by a broader misalignment between pedagogy, platform design, and the way users actually moved through the experience.

I approached the work as both a product and learning systems problem, examining how content strategy, interface decisions, and user behavior shaped satisfaction and engagement together.

Problem Statement

The platform was designed to support learning, but gaps between educational strategy and product execution were limiting user engagement and satisfaction. Users were interacting with content, features, and communication flows that did not always reinforce one another, which reduced clarity, motivation, and overall experience quality.

The challenge was to identify where those disconnects occurred and create a more unified strategy that aligned learning goals with the realities of product use.

Key Challenges

  • Understanding whether engagement issues were rooted in content design, product experience, or the interaction between the two
  • Translating mixed-methods findings into a practical strategy that could guide both learning experience improvements and product priorities

Research Process

Step 01
Framing engagement as a cross-system issue
I began by examining engagement as a cross-system issue rather than a single usability problem. This meant looking not only at what users said about the platform, but also at how learning content, product flows, and behavioral patterns worked together or against one another.
Step 02
Surveys and interviews to surface friction and satisfaction drivers
Through surveys and interviews, I explored how users perceived the educational experience, where they felt friction or disengagement, and what parts of the platform were helping or hindering their learning process. This helped surface both satisfaction drivers and areas where the intended pedagogy was not fully translating into the lived user experience.
Step 03
A/B testing and behavioral analysis
I used A/B testing and supporting behavioral analysis to examine how different design and content decisions affected engagement patterns. Rather than treating these as isolated experiments, I used them to understand which changes were improving motivation, clarity, and follow-through across the broader journey.
Step 04
Unified engagement strategy
I synthesized the findings into a unified engagement strategy that connected product enhancements with behavioral insight and educational intent. This helped shift the work from reactive improvement to a more coordinated approach in which platform decisions better supported the learning experience they were meant to deliver.

Impact

User Satisfaction

Elevated user satisfaction to more than 85% by aligning engagement improvements across content, platform, and behavioral insight.

Strategic Alignment

Helped connect learning strategy with product execution priorities through a clearer, research-driven direction, framing the challenge as a system-level mismatch rather than a narrow feature issue.
